road racing    


Ashurst bike club is affiliated to the relevant bodies for cycle road racing, time trials and triathlon competition. If you are interested in competition, there are plenty of experienced members, willing to help you along.

To be eligible for cycle road racing, you must hold a British Cycling Federation race license. For details on how to obtain a license, click here
When you purchase your British Cycling membership and race license, you will be a 4th category rider.
By entering events, you can gain points to work you way towards 1st category.
Road races take place throughout the country, for the majority it is necessary to enter in advance.

time trials    


Time trials are measured distances, ridden against the clock. The most common distances are 10, 25 and 50 miles. Unlike the pack riding found in road races, you will start at 1 minute intervals and ride alone. It is illegal to ride directly behind another competitor.
You do not need a race license to race in time trial events, but you must be a member of an affiliated club
. To enter a time trial, you must first fill in the
RTTC entry form with all the correct details and then post to the organiser, 2 weeks prior to the event. You are required to fill in the following details:

  • Name

  • Personal details

  • Emergency contact

  • Race entered

  • Cost

  • Personal best for a variety of distances

*If you have never ridden a time trial before, write this on the form. It is advisable to ride a local 10 mile time trial so you can give the organiser an estimation of your ability. RTTC site, listed below are the events taking place within the Liverpool and District Area, all of them can be found on the RTTC site. For better access to time trials, order a 'handbook' from the RTTC site, which has all contact details and costs for each event. If you are unsure, ask a member of the club for advice.

duathlon / triathlon    


Ashurst Bike Club is affiliated to the British Triathlon Association and organises the annual North West Duathlon Championships. As a North West regional club, they are committed to supporting NW events. To compete in triathlon and duathlon events it is not necessary to hold a racing license, but you will be required to pay extra for events to cover the 'day license fee'. If you are planning to compete regularly, you should
consider joining the BTA.

The NW grand prix series consists of a selection of duathlon and triathlon events, which are categorised as A. B or C events. Points are available towards the NW grand prix series by completing each of these events, category A events offer the most available points and category C the least.
