12.02.10 Parbold Hill Race

The long running Parbold Hill Race is tomorrow (Saturday 13th Feb) and ABC Runners should have a pretty good team out in force.  Entries still taken on the day - the race starts at the Farmers Arms on the north side of Parbold (close to Bispham) and registration is in the school next door.  This is also the home of epicevents Parbold Duathlon, so try the hill on foot before the bike!, a few places are still left for the North West Duathlon Champs, so get those entries in.

25.10.09 Off Road Duathlon, Coed Y Brenin (5k Run/20k Bike/5k Run) - Results

In the words of Robbie Marsh  .......

"Just got back from this gruler! Has to be one of the best races I have ever done. Format was 5k 20k 5k all set in stunning Coed y Brenin forest with mountain views 1800 feet of climbs and blistering single track down-hills, quite enough adrenalin for a Sunday morning.

Would be great to get a posse of ABC'ers down for this one next year, it will definitely be on my race calendar.

Managed 13th out of 106 finishers which am happy with after a bout of sickness and lack of training over the last couple of weeks."

Run 1 20:51; Bike 1:13:36; Run 2 24:00

10.10.09 World Ironman Triathlon Champs, Kona, Hawaii - Results

A massive congratulations to Julie Harrison who came over the line at about 7am this morning at the World Ironman Triathlon champs in Hawaii. Jules secured her place at the World Champs by winning her age group at IMUK and this was her second time at the World Champs, with her first last year.

Jules claimed 31st of 57 in her age group (an improvement of 11 places on last year's 42 in a similar size age group). Jules was only a few minutes off claiming a top 30. Jules improved this year's swim by 12mins, was quicker on the bike by a further 12mins and then just slipping back by 12mins on the marathon from last year. Consistent! Most of the leaders in Jules age group were a good 25 minutes plus down on their times last year, so for Jules to come in quicker was just a brilliant effort. According to the event presenters the sea was choppier, the bike windier than last year and the temperature just scorching at about 95 degrees F. Full details as follows:-

Swim 01:31:16
T1 00:04:52
Bike 06:43:41
T2 00:04:33
Run 04:38:22
Total 13:02:44

04.10.09 Oulton Park Duathlon, National Ranking Series Event - Results

Well done to all that raced at Oulton Park on Sunday. This was a new event for this year as it was increased to an Olympic distance. It was also part of the national ranking series and this made the top end of the field very high quality. However, this didn't hold back our ABC entries with some excellent age group results in some of the hardest age groups:-

Chris Wilson 5th 40-44
Ian Wilson 10th 35-39
Andy Berry 11th 35-39
Rob Marsh 14th 35-39
Martin Holden 13th 40-44
Louise Hogg 2nd 35-39
Paul Kay 4th 55-59
Karen Jarvis 2nd 45-49
Christine Dickinson 5th 45-49

Some notable efforts where both Louise and Karen claiming the fastest bike splits in their age group and some fantastic running by Chris Wilson claiming 2nd/3rd fastest 1st and 2nd runs respectively in his age group, but top 20 in both runs in the overall classification. Well done to Christine Dickinson, who completed her first full on duathlon - excellent effort.

Also welcome to Andy Berry (ABC Newbie) and good to see Martin H racing for ABC. Hopefully this will have given you a taste for duathlon next March/April and may be entering 3 of the 5 ranking series events to get some national recognition - don't forget the World Duathlon Champs are in Edinburgh next year, so keep an eye out for the qualifiers.

27.09.09 World Duathlon Champs, Concord, USA - Results

Matt Shillabeer competed in the championships in the 35-39 age group after qualifying at Clumber Park.  Matt claimed 13th of 42 in his age group.  The lead up to the race was very warm and up to 90 degrees on the Thursday before, but come Saturday the heavens opened and it tonked it down for the duration, making the bike course very tricky with a few 90 degree bends. Anyway Matt managed to stay up!. Matt came in 18th off the first run, got back up to 11th soon after T2 and then slipped 2 places on the last run to finish 13th. Matt's overall yime was 02:05:02 - full results can be found at http://www.zumtri.com/2009_duathlon_world_championships , race number 522.

20.09.09 North West Classic Sprint Tri, Nantwich - Results

Derek was back racing in September, with his training plan quite publicly identified as heavily based on the use of chocolate cake, he took 3rd in his age group (60-65) and 185th out of 529 finishers.  His splits and overall time were as follows:-

Swim 00:09:51
Bike 00:41:27
Run 0:26:03
Total 01:17:21

13.09.09 Bala Triathlon, Bala, N Wales - Results

All ABC were greeted by fog as we arrived at registration.  As the sun came up, the fog started to clear, but as soon as it left it dropped again delaying the start by about 20 minutes.  However, once the race got going, they were probably some of the best conditions of the year.  Great performances all round and some Olympic PBs on what was a reasonably accurate course.  Unfortunately Sam dropped out on the run with a recurring knee injury - Sam took the 9th fastest swim time of the day, fantastic job.

13.09.09 Ulverston Triathlon, Barrow, Cumbria (www.epicevents.org) - Results

Rich Bardon continued straight through from Helvellyn with the debut Ulverston Tri.  Karl also donned the black and white to do an event a little shorter than his usual Ironman, mind you the drive from St Helens to Barrow, probably got it closer to IM dedication.  ABC newbie Chris Green took part in his first triathlon and commented how much he enjoyed beating Karl (who he has trained with) by 6 minutes!!

06.09.09 Helvellyn Triathlon, Glenridding, Cumbria - Results

Well done to all the crazy ABCers that completed the Helvellyn Triathlon on Sunday.  Sounds like the weather just held out.  This is usually Marc's baby, but after a bike accident last week he was unable to compete.  The full event was over 500 so great efforts all round.  Not sure what happened to Ian S, but I am sure we will find out.  I would all take a well deserved rest now.  Full results can be found at http://www.trihard.co.uk/
